Friesen was reassigned from the Vancouver Canucks to the K-Wings on 03/13/13. Starting the season in the AHL, Friesen recorded 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in 39 games with the Chicago Wolves.
A sixth-round selection (172nd overall) of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Friesen played five seasons in the OHL with the Niagara IceDogs, where he was a teammate of current Canucks prospect of Darren Archibald in 2010-2011.
Last season with the IceDogs, Friesen recorded career-highs in 45 assists and 71 points, while tying his career-high in goals with 26. Overall, the 22-year-old forward posted 81 goals, 153 assists and 244 points in 282 career OHL contests with Niagara from 2007 to 2012.
