Lang lifts Solar Bears past K-Wings

Orlando defeats Kalamazoo 4-3 in overtime
February 23, 2014 - Mike Modugno
Director of Public Relations and Broadcaster

Kalamazoo, MI – Capitalizing on a Kalamazoo Wings turnover early in overtime, the Orlando Solar Bears won their ninth straight game with a 4-3 decision Sunday afternoon at Wings Stadium.

Connecting on their first power-play attempt of the afternoon, Matt Caria (18th) gave the K-Wings the lead 8:46 into the period with his seventh man-advantage goal of the season. Sam Ftorek pushed his point streak to four games with a secondary assist.

Orlando rallied back with a pair of goals less than four minutes apart. Conner Goggin (4th) let loose a wrist shot from the right circle 13:01 into the stanza. Moments later, Taylor Matson (12th) knocked in a rebound 16:49 into the period to give the Solar Bears their first lead of the game.

Scoring their fastest back-to-back goals of the season, the K-Wings reclaimed the lead midway in the second period. Yannick Veilleux (12th) lengthened his goal streak to a K-Wings’ season-high five games, 12:30 into the middle frame, with a power-play marker. David Pacan and Justin Taylor extended point streaks with assists on the goal. Pacan has recorded points in four straight games, while Taylor established a new team season-high, earning an eight-game point streak.

Just 15 seconds later, Chris Lawrence (7th) spun around in the slot and buried a wrister over Cody Reichard.

Avoiding heading into the locker room facing a deficit, Jacob Cepis (11th) scored on a wrap-around to even the game at 3-3. Matson earned his second assist and third point of the game on the tally, while Mickey Lang stretched his point streak to a Solar Bear season-high 10 games.

Matson capped off a four-point night in overtime by creating a turnover behind the K-Wings net. Matson laid a centering pass to the tape of Lang (31st) for the game-winner 1:04 into the extra session.

Despite the loss, the K-Wings have raised their unbeaten streak in regulation to four games (3-0-1-0) and eight games (7-0-1-0) at home.
