Kalamazoo, MI – The storied success of the Kalamazoo Wings continues to write itself in its ECHL record books. In a team effort the K-Wings stonewalled the Orlando Solar Bears in impressive fashion 4-1 Monday night at Wings Stadium during the 33rd Annual “World Famous” St. Patrick’s Day Green Ice Game.
In the process of Kalamazoo’s victory the team is now riding both a 12-game home unbeaten streak and 8-game winning streak; both are records in the ECHL for the K-Wings.
Striking on the power-play, Scott Tanski (17th) redirected a Bryce Aneloski centering pass 14:34 into the opening period to give the Solar Bears the lead.
Kalamazoo tied the game late in the stanza with a second chance opportunity from Dustin Cloutier (5th), who knocked in a Joe Sova slap shot with 10 seconds remaining in the period.
Scoring the lone goal in the second frame to lengthen his point streak to three games, Nick Sirota put the K-Wings ahead by netting his 10th goal of the season 5:27 into the period. Matt Caria earned an assist on the goal to increase his overall point streak to six games and his home point streak to a league-high 16 games.
Chris Lawrence kept the Saint Patties Day party going in the third period when his rocket of a shot found the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season while increasing his point streak to eight games. Justin Taylor recorded an assist on the tally pushing his home point streak to 13 games and overall point streak to six.
The K-Wings ended the scoring frame late in the third after Taylor (18th) pushed a puck through an empty netter. Taylor increased his goal streak to three games.
Tossing aside 13-of-13 shots in the third, Jordan Binnington played well as he stopped 24 of 25 shots all game.
