K-Wings deliver another OT victory

Kalamazoo defeats Toledo 3-2 in overtime
April 11, 2014 - Mike Modugno
Director of Public Relations and Broadcaster

Toledo, OH – For the second straight game the Kalamazoo Wings needed more than 60 minutes to earn a victory. Matt Firman (8th) put in a second chance effort 1:12 into overtime to guide the K-Wings past the Toledo Walleye and place Kalamazoo within a single point of the North Division title.

Applying plenty of pressure in the Walleye zone, Ryan Del Monte (8th) scored on a rebound 14:25 into the period to give the K-Wings the lead.

Splitting the K-Wings defense while on the power-play, Maxime Shalunov (16th) tied the game at 1-1 13:32 into the second period.

Responding three minutes later, just following a power-play of own, Chris Lawrence (16th) redirected an Elgin Reid slap shot to put Kalamazoo back in front.

Earning the lone goal in the third period, Kyle Rogers forced overtime with his 14th goal of the season with 4:44 remaining in regulation.

Setting up Firman for the extra session heroics was Del Monte, who tipped a Walleye pass at the K-Wings blue line to create an odd-man rush.
