Orlando, FL – The Orlando Solar Bears held off a late rally by the Kalamazoo Wings to win 4-3 Friday night at the Amway Center. The win increased Solar Bears overall win streak to 10 games and their home winning streak to nine games.
Sliding in from the point, Blake Kessel (8th) gave the Solar Bear the lead 2:41 into the contest.
Kalamazoo responded midway in the period when David Pacan (10th) deflected a Yannick Veilleux wrister. Pacan’s goal extended his point streak to six games, while the assist from Veilleux lengthened his point streak to nine games. Also assisting on the tally was Justin Taylor, who pushed his K-Wings’ season-high point streak to 10 games.
Intercepting a pass in the neutral zone, Bryce Aneloski raced in the attached and stepped around the K-Wings defense to score his fifth goal of the season to put the Solar Bears ahead 2-1.
In the second period another turnover by Kalamazoo led to another goal by Orlando. Taking away a breakout pass, Michael Catenacci (4th) quickly released a backhander past Jordan Binnington.
Climbing their lead to three goals, C.J. Severyn (10th) scored 29 seconds into the third period to give the Solar Bears a 4-1 advantage.
Storming back Taylor (13th) answered a minute and a half later to bring the K-Wings back to within two goals.
The comeback continued later with a tally from Chris Lawrence (9th).
Nearly pulling even in the waning moments, Kalamazoo’s Elgin Reid hit the cross bar on the last rush of the game.
