Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL, three-time defending North Division Champions and National Hockey League affiliate to the Vancouver Canucks, and American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves announce the additions of forward Darren Archibald and defensemen John Negrin (NEH-grihn) and Mike Matczak (matt-zack)
Archibald, who was reassigned by the Canucks, returns for his second season with the K-Wings. Splitting last season with Chicago and Kalamazoo, Archibald posted 43 points (14 goals, 29 assists) and had a team-best plus-22 in 49 games with the K-Wings; earning him the team’s Rookie of the Year award.
Before turning pro, Archibald played four seasons of Junior hockey registering 222 points (113 goals, 109 assists) primarily in the Ontario Hockey League.
Assigned to the K-Wings by the Wolves, Negrin is entering his fourth season of professional hockey. A former 3rd round (70th overall) selection of the Calgary Flames during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Negrin has played in three NHL games, all with the Flames, earning an assist and two minutes in penalties.
Spending a majority of his career in the AHL, Negrin split last season with the Abbortsford Heat and St. John’s IceCaps, where he recorded four assists in 40 games. The native of Vancouver, British Columbia also spent nine games last year in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies, where he produced six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in nine games.
Prior to turning pro, Negrin notched 117 points (13 goals, 104 assists) in 235 career Western Hockey League games with the Kootenay Ice and Swift Current Broncos spanning five seasons (2004-09).
After being release from the training camp of the AHL’s Manchester Monarches, Matczak returns to Kalamazoo, where he was the team’s Meijer Most Improved Player Award. Proving to be an offensive-defenseman, Matczak finished his rookie campaign notching 35 points (11 goals, 24 assists) in 60 games.
Matczak’s first opportunity in the pro ranks was in 2010-11 with the AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms, where he played in four games after completing his collegiate career at Yale University.
With the Bulldogs, Matczak recorded 39 points (8 goals, 31 assists) in 114 games and ranked in the top three amongst his team’s defensemen in three of his four years at Yale.
The K-Wings will open up the regular season this Friday, October 12th with an 8 p.m. encounter against the Fort Wayne Komets at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Kalamazoo will return home to Wings Stadium on Friday, October 19th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off to battle Fort Wayne featuring a pregame home opening tailgate party.
Single-game and season tickets for the 2012-2013 season are on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office. Ticket Office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday’s. To charge tickets by phone, please call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.
Tickets for all K-Wings home games are $13 and $17.50 for adults and only $7 for kids ages 14 and under. The price for all K-Wings premium night games (all colored ice games and New Year’s Eve game) are just $1 more.
Fans can save money by purchasing K-Wings single-game tickets in advance because tickets purchased on the day of a game increase by $2 (adults only).
