Jackals extend K-Wings road losing streak

Elmira defeats Kalamazoo 4-1
January 29, 2014 - Mike Modugno
Director of Public Relations and Broadcaster

Elmira, NY – Scoring three unanswered goals, the Elmira Jackals extended the Kalamazoo Wings road losing streak to a season-high four games with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night at the First Arena.

Special teams paid dividends in the opening period. In their lone power-play attempt of the period Elmira grabbed an early advantage with a goal from Mike Vaskivuo (11th) 9:28 into the stanza.

Not to be outdone minutes later, Kalamazoo capitalized on their only man-advantage in the first period with a tally from Matt Caria (14th). Needing just six seconds of power-play time, Caria scored with a wrister from the right circle.

Elmira recaptured the lead late in the second period. With 31.4 seconds remaining in the middle frame, Dean Walters (3rd) sent a wrist shot off the post and over the goal line to give the Jackals a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Kyle Bushee (6th) and Artem Demkov (11th) tacked on goals in the final period to put the game out of reach for Elmira.
